Hello, Goodbye from our interns new and old
A reminder to place your order, farewells and welcome aboards, and a call for volunteers!
Market ordering closes tomorrow (Monday) at noon. Don’t forget to place your order!
We have an abundant harvest this week! Head over to Open Food Network to check it out and place your order. You have less than 24 hours.

Thank you, Olivia!
Olivia has been our Bonner site leader throughout this year, and we are so grateful for everything she has done throughout this year! She has consistently brought a wonderful, kind, organized, and positive energy to the market every Tuesday. Here’s what she has to say about her time with the market this year and her plans for the rest of the year:
“My favorite thing about the market is getting to see so many new and friendly faces each week! It’s been a huge honor getting to know all of our incredible growers, customers, and volunteers this year!
This summer I’ll be working at a non profit that does immigrant/refugee support in Atlanta, but I’ll absolutely be back in the fall! Liz is stepping up as site leader but is already killing the newsletter - I’ll just be there to see friendly faces! Otherwise, I’m stepping in as the Sewanee Democratic Engagement site leader.
Thank you to everyone who has made this year fantastic!”
See you later from Liz Calabria
I’m Liz Calabria, and I’m a rising senior studying Natural Resources and the Environment, French, and Civic and Global Leadership. I also serve as a Bonner Leader. In addition to working with Rooted Here, I’ve also worked with the Community Action Committee, South Pittsburg Middle School, St. Mary’s Convent, and the Reentry Program at Franklin and Grundy County Jails where I served as site leader. One of my favorite things about being a Bonner is applying what I’ve learned in the classroom into actionable work, finding a harmony between ecological and social communities.
Next year, as Olivia mentioned, I’ll step into the role as site leader for Rooted Here and Southeast Young Farmer’s Coalition. I’m super excited to take on this role and work more with our local food system. Rooted Here has always been one of my favorite Bonner sites: I love being around fresh food, grown and made with love, and a wonderful community who’s passionate about their local food system.
I’m signing off for the summer, but I’ll see y’all in August. Before I go, let me introduce you to our wonderful summer interns.
Meet Maggie Barker
Maggie is a rising senior at Sewanee. Back home in Milan, TN, Maggie and her brother started a stand at their local farmer’s market where they sell Maggie’s beautiful art and their homegrown vegetables. We are excited to welcome her on board this summer! Here’s what she has to say:
“Hi! My name is Maggie Barker and I am a rising senior at Sewanee. I am a Psychology major with a double minor in Neuroscience and Art. When I am not doing school work, I am on the softball field or making art. My favorite thing at the market is meeting new people!”
Meet Ansley Stibbs
Ansley is a rising junior at Sewanee pursuing a major in English and a minor in Art History. She’ll be joining us as an intern this summer before she goes abroad. This is what she has to say:
“Hi! I’m Ansley and I’m from Atlanta, GA. I’m super excited to work for the Farmer’s Market this summer, as well as getting to better know the community around me that I already love so much. Learning about how to eat and farm sustainably here in Sewanee and its surrounding areas is incredibly important, and I’m looking forward to meeting the people that make it all happen.”
Love the market? Come volunteer!
Many of our student interns and volunteers have gone home for the summer. This means we need extra help from y’all, especially as the season picks up! If you’re looking for a fun summer activity, volunteering at the market is a great opportunity. Volunteer shifts are available from 1:30 - 6:30 on Tuesdays, and you don’t have to stay for the whole time. Email cumberlandfm@gmail.com if you’re interested. We hope to see you soon!
